Thanks for your question - it's a good one!
In our opinion it's far more important to be yourself rather than
'appear experienced' as you put it - you can't!
Contrary to some reports, many agencies, directors and production companies often search for a 'naturalistic' feel to a read and therefore actively look for a less experienced, albeit competent artist. That's when opportunities can often come knocking, and you start getting the credits.
Even those artists with many credits can achieve little without a strong showreel - if yours is good and you're the voice they've imagined hearing, then you'll get booked - regardless of how many miles are on your clock!
Your mission is to get that tape heard by as many people
as possible. Chances lead to opportunities and in turn, they lead to experience.
